Srinagar, Jul 17 (KNO): Split into two factions in the year 2020, the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) is likely to get reunited, as a series of consultations are currently going on.
Sources revealed to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a series of meetings between the two factions have been going on for some time and they are framing a committee to hold the general elections.
“An internal consultation is going on between the two factions of EJAC for the reunification; the process is on and a committee too has been proposed for holding the general elections for the constitution of the body,” they said.
The differences started in 2020, after which the leadership within the forum split in 2021, and two separate factions came into existence. Subsequently, both claimed to represent the EJAC.
The separate presidents – Fayaz Ahmad Shabnum and Wajhat Durrani – led each faction of the EJAC.
A senior member of the EJAC who is part of the consultation group confirmed to KNO that they are holding deliberations to bring the functioning of the forum back to a single platform.
“It is premature to speak about the reunification; however, there is a backdoor consultation going on with the sole purpose of welfare and benefit of the employees of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. “Due to the split within the forum, the employees’ issues were largely affected, but now, after the series of consultations so far, we are witnessing positive results and are hopeful of the forum’s reunification.”
There were differences due to which there was a split within the forum; however, they were not natural, but were created, he said, adding, “We are hopeful that a major announcement on reunification will be made soon.”—(KNO)
